(1953) Cessna 195 IFR Training

Tony,

As I mentioned in our phone conversation, I found your training to be excellent. Not knowing how I might respond to the intensive type of training, when I first took on the task, I am pleased with the outcome. I was especially appreciative of the instruction style of John and his knowledge of instrument flying. The approach he took with me was perfect for the way I learn. He introduced new tasks at measured steps that built on and reinforced the previous day’s lessons. I have had a chance now to fly in actual IMC on several days, and feel completely confident in what I am doing. I would recommend your company and John to anyone interested in your program.

My Cirrus SR-22 Perspective 10 Day IFR Training

Tony,

We all know that getting an instrument rating is not an easy task. I am happy to say that AFIT has allowed me to accomplish this task because of the quality instruction that I received. I have had a few instructors over my short aviation career, but have never been so fortunate to have John in the right seat.

John’s aviation knowledge is extensive, but it is his ability to adjust his teaching methods to best suit the individual that is amazing. We flew my SR-22 "Perspective" over 40 hours and were fortunate to have a few days of IMC. John’s great depth of Garmin avionics afforded me a deeper understanding of my planes potential which ultimately prepared me for my practical test. After 10 days I had my Instrument rating and a new friend. I highly recommend AFIT and John.

Tony,

Just a note to let you know how much I enjoyed working with Bill out in Georgetown, TX. He has a wealth of airplane knowledge but most of all he has the attitude, desire, and personality of a teacher. Not everyone can say that. We had some starts and stops due to our King Air Easter Sunday incident, the pilot's funeral and some central Texas weather, all things that could not be controlled, but you and Bill worked with me on all of those things and we got it done. I really like your 10 day IFR program that ya'll have set up. Once again, it was a joy working with Bill and A.F.I.T. and the pleasure was all mine!

Tony,

My intentions when I arranged my “finish up” IFR training with AFIT was to do just what it says, complete my training and obtain my instrument rating at the conclusion. I have a great local CFII but trying to coordinate our schedules resulted in a lot of interruptions in training and then having to review before continuing on. Also for me I needed my feet to the fire to finish some things such as the written exam so by setting my date with AFIT my feet were smoldering and I got with it.

Working with you Tony was very pleasant and (unlike me) you returns all phone calls and emails promptly and you and your team were very helpful in making my arrangements. It was great having My instructor, Bill E., assigned to me early on so I could establish a dialog and work with him to prepare for my training. Based on our discussions Bill decided on the number of days I would need prior to my check ride and prepared a daily lesson syllabus which I received early on along with suggested study subjects prior to his arrival.

Bill E. arrived on time and we worked everyday, all day as promised. It is a challenging schedule, but if you set the time aside and commit to the daily routine I found it was' (for me) a great way to finish my training and prep for my orals and check ride. Bill was a consummate professional who was great to work with. Although we enjoyed casual discussions to break the work up he was always focused and committed to insure we did what was required to properly cover the material and flight time. When I met with my examiner I felt prepared and confident and my testing went great. I was instrument rated on schedule. I have Bill’s number if I need to discuss anything and that’s nice to know. I would certainly recommend Bill and AFIT to anyone looking to complete their instrument training.

10 Day IFR

Tony,

This past Saturday I passed my Instrument check ride after a very intense 10 days with an extremely dedicated instructor. At 67 I was concerned that I had bitten off more than I could chew but Hal’s patience, attention to detail and unbelievable dedication to my success overcame the “you don’t learn as easily when you get older syndrome”. Anybody who has the opportunity to learn with Hal will not only have a great opportunity at success but you will gain a new friend.

Tony,

I want to thank you again and tell you how glad I am that I used A.F.I.T. for my instrument training. Taking the 10 days off of work was well worth the time and money. It was a pleasure working with Ed for the 10 days. He is very easy going and has a tremendous amount of knowledge. Ed was able to explain all the material in a way that made it easy to learn. I recommend A.F.I.T. and Ed to anyone who is serious about attaining their IFR certificate.

IFR Training In MY DA-40 / G1000

Dear Tony

I just wanted to share my impressions of my recent training with Bill and AFIT. Once I arrived in Texas, we got right to work. I had been asked to have my written completed before I came for training and I easily would have finished with training in less than 10 days if I had completed my written first. Unfortunately, my home and work schedules didn’t permit me to finish it before my training began. Bill worked with me daily to review any questions I had on my practice written tests to make sure I had complete mastery of everything needed both for the test and for actual proficiency. We did lots of flying under the hood every day. We even worked during lunch breaks with his famous pink flash cards to practice for the oral portion of the exam. I took the written and scored a 95. I also easily passed my checkride too thanks to Bill’s flying skill and knowledge and his ability to teach both to me. The most important thing I gained by working with Bill and AFIT was not just an instrument rating, but instrument proficiency. The morning after my checkride, I filed my flight plan and took off into instrument conditions for the first time and flew home safely and confidently in the clouds from Texas to New Jersey with a fuel and meal stop in Arkansas and another fuel stop in West Virginia. Two days later, I flew again in IFR conditions. Since I earned my instrument rating earlier this month, I have flown about 40 hours in actual IFR conditions. Each time I fly I am thankful for the skills I learned which make me both confident and safe. I don’t hesitate to fly because of visibility as long as I am within minimums plus a safety margin. I can read and predict the weather much better now too thanks to my training. The practical tips and experiences shared by Bill have also helped me to make better informed choices about when to fly in IMC and when to wait or drive. I still hear his voice when I unintentionally deviate from my intended course by a degree or two – “Robert, level the wings!” I’m still learning, but I have a great foundation to build upon thanks to my AFIT training!

Tony,

I wanted to let you know the training was great(as expected). I feel much more comfortable with the IFR system now. I got a ton of valuable information from Ed and very much enjoyed spending time with him. I don't think we had less than a 12 hour day the 3 days we trained! He truly has a wealth of knowledge to share....his teaching background and 10,000 hours in the air certainly shows.

Thank you for the experience.

IFR Training in My AC-50 Twin Commander

Tony:

I had a great experience with John this past week. John is pleasant, knowledgeable and thorough. He was patient when I was frustrated and helped me get over the learning curve to feel comfortable in the IFR environment. Aside from the IFR teaching, he also taught me about my airplane, making me more knowledgeable regarding airplane systems, maintenance and avionics. He seems to approach his work with the eagerness of someone who still enjoys going to work in the morning. After the first day or two, I found I was having more fun than I would have expected trying to get ready for the check ride. He had me doing engine out partial panel approaches before we were done, which was more than anything required on the check ride. Then off to Idaho to find an examiner who was qualified to perform the exam in a Twin Commander. He and Pat met me at the airport when I returned to help me celebrate-a very professional gesture. I would be happy to work with John again or to recommend him without reservation.

Please accept this email as a letter of recommendation. Bill wasn't just a good instructor during his time with me - he REMAINS a good instructor and friend AFTER his time with me and AFTER we have completed the mission of getting me my IFR rating. I say "we" because I could not have done the job without his insight and encouragement. I nailed each maneuver and the DE actually had a smile on his face when I landed - telling me to congratulate my instructor on the accomplishment. The FIRST person I called was Bill. To this day, I can call or email him with a question. I'm planning a flight tomorrow to my Martha's Vineyard house. Forecast is for winds gusting 10-15 and low clouds with 40% chance of rain. I am confident in myself and the airplane that the flight will be uneventful - thanks to Bill and the philosophy of your company.

My 10 Day IFR Training

Tony,

Now that I have finished my IFR training, I can say that I am extremely pleased to have chosen AFIT for my instrument rating. You assigned Hal to be my instructor for the 10 day course and it worked out great, I got to stay home and train, while Hal lived close by and was able to make a small commute.

As for the training, Hal was great, he was easy to understand and patient with my progression. For the 10 days during the course Hal was always encouraging and enjoyed instructing. With Hal's amount of flight time in more complex aircraft, I was concerned that he would have a hard time transitioning back into a C172, however, I was very pleased with his knowledge and instruction he provided in my aircraft. During the course, I was surprised to feel like I was learning at a reasonable pace and not being overwhelmed with information. Hal had a great sense for how much information to provide at just the right time.

During the 10 days, Hal would debrief after each approach and after performing any required objective for the rating. Throughout the course I was pleased with the quality of training I was getting and knowledge Hal was able to pass along from his many years of flight experience. Hal's experience is priceless, with 10,000 hours of PIC time, his ability to teach from his experiences and relate it to instrument training is awesome. Hal's willingness to share from personal experiences results in an easy application of rules and regulations that could be hard to grasp. Hal's strong desire to teach is a great combination with his knowledge and it showed throughout the course.

I would gladly recommend AFIT as a resource to get an instrument rating or IFR refresher and would, without a doubt recommend Hal as an instructor for an instrument rating.

10 Day IFR Training In My Cessna 172

Hello Tony,

Thanks again. The training approach was perfect for my busy schedule and Ralph is an "excellent" instructor. At first I was a little nervous that he was not going to push me hard enough, but about day 7 when I was getting cranky, tired and starting to make silly errors he was very patient with me and kept reassuring me that I could achieve my goal and I was on track. I enjoyed his stories (he has a lot of them) and he "fit in" well with our local airport crowd. Give him a bonus this year!

I would not hesitate to recommend other pilots to contact AFIT.

Tony,

Thanks again. Your course is demanding, but with a good balance of flying and ground instruction, it was truly rewarding. Ralph was a "Great" instructor and teacher. More than just cover the practical test standards, he strives to really help you become an IFR pilot. I don't think there was a single question I could come up with on any facet of IFR flying that he could not answer immediately and accurately and give a real life experience to explain really "Why".

I passed the check ride with no problems. This 10 day format was by far the best solution for me to obtain my IFR rating not to mention I made a new friend.

10 Day IFR Training In My Piper Archer II

Tony,

I wanted to take a minute and share my impressions of the A.F.I.T. 10 day course and especially my instructor, Bill. If I had to sum up Bill in one word it would be patience. We began the course in Georgetown flying my Piper Archer II which I thought was in the best shape ever. After one day of flying the autopilot gave up followed by the number 2 navigation radio. I was really upset about the autopilot! Bill used his relationship with Central Texas Avionics to get the equipment back online the day before the check ride. In the interim we flew approach after approach in the gusty central Texas winds with Bills voice calmly goading me with the phrase, “okay now level the wings and you’ll fly right back into the donut”. One of the many phrases that was helpful to remember during the check ride although I still hear them in my sleep. We visited a number of airports around Texas with a variety of approaches and environments in differing conditions. The only constant was Bill’s patience and calm demeanor; oh and the aviation stories and his experiences weren’t bad either. We reviewed for the oral when we could and dined at some of the best small Texas town restaurants around.
Bill in conjunction with AFIT was a great way, albeit intense at times for this gray haired guy to complete my instrument training successfully.

Thank you very much and best regards to all. ---

Cirrus SR-22 10 Day IFR Training

Dear Tony

My Training with AFIT was the best dual instruction experience In the five years I've been flying. You guys were wonderful, you worked around my schedule and amazingly within just a week or two's notice had everything taken care of, making getting my instrument rating during spring break a reality. My experiences with Ed was nothing short of awesome. He is a very enjoyable person to work with, and someone which you can really just sit and have a good conversation with. He really likes what he's doing, and his previous experience as a teacher shines extremely well through his flight instruction. His knowledge and first hand experiences with Icing were extremely helpful, especially when we ran into some icing ourselves during the training. Ed was extremely knowledgeable, and made the training not only a great learning experience, but a fun one as well. While there was alot of information to absorb, alot of breaks enabled me to learn the information and then take some time to absorb what was learned. The days were long usually lasting from 8 to 6, but with the breaks they seemed to go by very fast. Throughout the training we logged quite a bit of time in actual conditions, taking us all the way from San Luis Obispo to the San Francisco Bay Area, and even a trip to Modesto,CA. The Oral Portion of the checkride focused on the basic systems of the Cirrus, placing emphasis on what you would do if you had an electrical failure. The majority of the oral was focused on the planned Cross Country which was from Salinas to Long Beach,CA. Questions were asked regarding the departure, approach, and enroute procedures for the planned flight with taking the weather especially the freezing level into consideration. The Oral also went over lost com procedures in detail and ended with going over various symbols on the Approach Plates and Low Alt. En Route Charts. Most of seemed to be more judgment style questions rather then A and B answer questions, which I felt very prepared for as Ed and I had gone over the weather and scenarios for every flight every morning for the last 10 days, including wondering why a Cessna 172 constantly flew into known icing almost every morning we checked the Pireps. AFIT would be my number one and only recommendation for anyone wanting to earn an instrument rating. I'm confident that when my Father takes his instrument training this summer that it will be with AFIT, and I'm positive that he'll enjoy the training with AFIT just as I did.

My 10 Day IFR Training Experience

Dear Tony,

I would like to thank you for this great experience.

Being a very low time private pilot the instrument rating seemed to be very far away for me but your fast, intense and "real life" method was the perfect choice as my business and family keep me very busy. You don't have the time to forget what you just learned the previous day, you just keep improving it.

Please say a very special thank you to John for me: despite having to deal with a very strong French accent and do many cross country trips in order for me to meet the requirements he has always been very patient and professional. He really took the time to explain the concepts and to improve my skills while both in the air and during ground school. But before all, I believe that what really puts him on top is his ability to always find the right words to preserve the balance between confidence and humility.

I now feel much more competent and safer and I will not hesitate to recommend your program to any pilot.

Bonanza A36 - 10 Day IFR Flight Training

Tony,

I appreciate the help in earning my instrument rating.

Although I had been working on the rating for over a year, flying every couple of weeks was not conducive to developing the knowledge or skill necessary to be a competent IFR pilot. A.F.I.T.’s program of concentrated ground school and flying time fit my needs perfectly.

Even more importantly, John my A.F.I.T. instructor, did a terrific job of ensuring the 10 day curriculum addressed the gaps and developed my flying capabilities. Pennsylvania has some very cold and windy weather!

John is not only a competent, knowledgeable, experienced pilot, he is a "wonderful teacher" and genuinely nice guy! And obviously dedicated to my success! I was very well prepared for my oral and check ride and am now prepared to safely build my piloting experience and capabilities.

I wholeheartedly endorse you’re A.F.I.T. training model and recommend John, without hesitation, to your future students.

CFI and Commercial Training

Tony,

I completed my CFI and commercial ratings with your instructor Bill. I passed my check rides with ease! I found Bill to be a very competent CFI. Bill has a gift for instructing, even hard cases like this one, and a pleasant attitude which really helps during these hot temperatures in Phoenix! The examiner, Bill Toby, was the best I have flown with in my opinion, and set the stage for a relaxed ride to demonstrate my ability.

PPL and IFR Training C172S WAAS G1000

Dear Tony,

Thank you very much. It was a very intensive 12 days and Bill had to run a very tight program to get in the 2 written tests and the medical examination. I had learned the course material to a reasonable standard before coming over, but Bill impressed the need on me for an excellent score in the written exams as being a pre-requisite for a short and precise oral exam, so we gave that extra attention in the first week. We flew a lot every day (3-5 hrs) and I studied in the evenings and from 05.30 every morning. And then there is Bill’s little pack of pink cards that give you a right real quiz every time you sit down to lunch. The result was 92% for the PPL written and 93% for the IR.

In my case I needed intensive practice with the G1000 system, particularly with the “buttonology,” and Bill kept drumming that into me. I paid a lot of attention to the G1000 manual and the aircraft POH in the second week. Bill showed a great deal of flexibility in adapting the training depending on the weather and available test booking scenarios; we settled early in the second week for Friday for both tests. Luckily the weather played along. After the “buttonology” comes the “fire drill” which sorts you out for flying two approaches rapidly after one another for a single facility. Bill knew what his Designated Examiner was looking for and gave me useful tips and encouraging words, food and perfectly timed AVGAS right through the test day which ended at 21.00 in Georgetown after we got back from testing in Brownwood.

I think it very well worth mentioning that Bill has all the “soft factors” buttoned down as well. The aircraft was in a perfect condition, we always had a clean windscreen, the right docs on board, all the training aids you can think of. He showed me a lot of useful programs on the Net, which make flight planning and weather updates quick and useful to find and interpret. His little pack of DVDs contain useful tutorials for everything from US radio technique to IF clearances and real-time emergency scenarios. He took me to every conceivable restaurant specializing in different variations of Texas cuisine and no sooner had you tasted the first mouthful out came the next briefing, the inevitable pink cards or the practical test standards /oral guides. Not even ordering his recommended specialty (“you can’t leave Texas without having had chicken fried steak”), got me exempted from the pink cards. Some days I was pretty wound up; he sensed that and found the balance to push you on, but keep you sane at the same time.

I worked very hard and Bill was quite honestly the “Perfect Coach”. I’d recommend him to anyone and threatened to send my wife over (only problem is she’d come back 20 lbs overweight).

A big thanks to AFIT and Bill from an “elated” INSTRUMENT RATED Pilot.

10 Day IFR Training C172S WAAS G1000

Dear Tony,

I wanted to thank you for AFIT's excellent service and the superb training I received with John. I was able to successfully complete my IR tests (written, oral + check ride) and obtain my Instrument Rating within exactly 10 days, as planned. I cannot thank John enough for his pro-activeness and excellent eye for detail throughout my training. I found John to be a fabulous instructor, thorough in his preparations, very effective in ground training, and extremely good at flight training. His vast experience as an airman, instructor and also as a businessman makes him uniquely able to teach people quickly and to bring them up to the required IFR standards. Plus, John is a great guy and a very personable instructor.

I highly valued training on a recent Garmin 1000-equipped airplane. John's intimate knowledge of the Garmin 1000 glass cockpit system enabled me to learn quickly not only how to use the system for safe and effective IFR flight, but also to start tapping into its huge potential for flight planning and enhanced situational awareness. I am truly delighted to have learned so much and I feel strongly that I am a better, safer, more able pilot now than I was before starting my training.

Last but not least, I appreciated the help in getting the paperwork ready in time for completion and within tight deadlines, not always an easy task for foreign pilots.

It has been a rich, sometimes intense, but overall very satisfying experience. I highly recommend AFIT, and John in particular, to anyone interested in improving their flying skills, whatever they may be.

Please feel free to forward my recommendation as you see fit.

DA-40 Training with G1000

Tony,

A successful training program has 3 key elements. 1. Instructor knowledge 2. Instructor fit/personality 3. Student commitment.

I brought the commitment and Hal delivered his parts. Over the years, I have flown with a number of different instructors and none of them were as good at transferring so much information in a condensed period of time. Hal took me from a 4 four year break in flying vacuum gage aircraft to proficiency in a G-1000 equipped aircraft in 10 days. That is phenomenal.

Thank You.

I’m so happy to have finished up becoming an instrument pilot in such a short time. A.F.I.T. is the way to go to minimize the hassles of scheduling instruction. John cared very much about my success and I feel like I’ve made a new friend. This was an excellent way to finish up my 23 year journey to get my rating.

10 Day IFR Training IN MY Mooney Ovation 3

Hey Tony,

I’ve been out and about catching up with business from my time off and putting my knew rating to good use. Since my check ride, I’ve logged nearly 50 hours flying here, there and everywhere.

In regards to Bill, it’s been a while since I’ve flown with someone like him; a perfect blend of professional and personable. During our training, he was courteous, patient, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. I know where I will turn when I have questions or need help for my next rating. The practical experience, the ground school and flight training at Georgetown were all incredible learning experiences. "All around a great experience."

Thanks again, and I look forward to scheduling my commercial instruction soon.

Cirrus Perspective IFR Training

Tony,

I cannot thank you, AFIT and John enough for all of your time, expertise and professional guidance these last nine days. Your program, the follow-up, and the actual training were all well designed and individually tailored to get me to my ultimate goal of earning my instrument rating and license in less than ten days.

As you promised, John was the perfect instructor to help me to achieve my goals. I had a lot of territory that needed to be covered, both for the oral as well as for the flying and John patiently brought me up to speed in both areas. John did a phenomenal job of getting me to my goal and objective of achieving my instrument rating in the time frame we had allotted. Tony, this was a monumental undertaking for me and I was very happy with the process, the professionalism and the outcome. My thanks again to you and to John for taking me to a whole new level of flying!

I would highly recommend AFIT and John to anyone who wants to devote ten concentrated days to this endeavor.

Instrument Training PA-32 Cherokee Six - 5 Day Finish Up Course

Tony,

Starting on Sunday morning with a full tank of fuel and a few hours of instrument training we began. I believed the approaches I had already flown had me ready and this was just a polish the rough edges. I quickly saw I had a lot to learn. A couple of days later I had quite frankly given up. Now a word about my instructor. Ralph did not give up. In fact, in my darkest hour he said "I have not given up on you". He gave me a confidence and a determination to do what needed to be done. His patient counsel and clear instruction coupled with his knowledge of the airplane made it possible. Ralph would break it up with a story or an actual newspaper article about his flying career. Soon I was ready to do it again. On the fourth day I shot all the approaches perfectly and he said your ready. We set up the check ride for Thursday and I passed. It was tough but the sense of accomplishment was incredible. Ralph was always there and met me after the ride. I cant thank him enough in helping me achieve a goal I have had since childhood. Ralph, Thanks again.

AFIT Training - DA-40XL G1000

Tony,

It was a pleasure to work with John on my instrument rating. I am glad to have passed my instrument rating at the end of 10 days of flying. AFIT (John) delivered as advertised. Without AFIT, I would not have completed my training in such a short time. Taking more than two years to complete my private pilots license was not the path I wanted to follow for my instrument rating. As the new owner of a Diamond DA40XL, I didn't want to repeat the mistakes of my private license training. The instrument training I received in my airplane has advanced my skills to be safe and proficient while obtaining the maximum benefit of a technically advanced G1000 aircraft. I enjoyed the time flying out of Boulder, CO to destinations that provided me with the opportunity to fly many different instrument approaches at airports in Wyoming, South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado instead of just the local area that an examiner would use to test my skills. John provided me with tips and insights on flying beyond instrument flying that only a well seasoned professional flight instructor of his caliber could provide. I appreciate the knowledge and skills I gained from flying with John.

Traveling to Boulder instead of flying locally in Phoenix during the summer was an easy choice. John provided insight on great accommodations and what to do in Boulder that topped off great days of flying. I thoroughly enjoyed my break from my day job to flying out of Boulder and would recommend John and AFIT to anyone who wants to do it right and get an instrument rating.

Cheers,

Tony,

I just want to say thank you for all your help and expertise in training me to be a better and safer pilot. I just completed and PASSED my Instrument Check Ride after 10 days with John. I have to admit it was a lot of work but I feel so good at accomplishing this goal. John was amazing as he could fly for many hours a day and remain focused and on top of the training. I felt so confident when it came time to do the Check Ride as I had many hours of practice in a short period of time which allowed me to become 100% familiar with how IFR flying works. This is so much better than the typical “fly once a week” method of learning. By doing it every day for 10 straight days it becomes ingrained in you.

I just did a Demo flight in a Cessna Citation Mustang and the Cessna Operations Pilot commented on my skills of flying a Jet which I have ZERO experience in. I told him it was the recent training that I had received from AFIT that allowed me to be a confident and proficient pilot.

Thanks again for a great job and helping me achieve this goal while working around my busy schedule. If you are considering getting your Instrument Rating, AFIT is the ONLY way to go.

Thank you.

Tony,

I wanted to say thank you for your help in assisting me obtain my instrument rating. Hal was a consummate professional, with the perfect demeanor for flight instruction. We got along great for our 10 days together and I learned a tremendous amount. Hal was always prepared for the day of instruction and adapted to my schedule when necessary. I think Hal is a great asset to your company and would recommend him to anyone who is thinking about an accelerated course. Please feel free to send my contact information to anyone who is considering using Hal or AFIT.

Furthermore, the more I read about the antiquated technology of the simulators used by other companies, reinforces my core belief that actual flying conditions cannot be replicated. I understand the cost of flying keeps increasing, but the savings realized using a sim cannot compete with actual flying time under ATC control.

Hi Tony,

Yesterday I passed my instrument rating checkride. Wow! You cannot imagine the thrill of that. However, the reason I write is to let you know how much I owe AFIT, you, and my instructor Ed for the rating. Ed entered my training after I struggled along for 18 months trying to learn instrument flying elsewhere. I struggled with whether or not accelerated was for me, could I do it, was it a good training method, etc. After reading about AFIT in Piper Flyer I took the plunge. As you know, my wife Brenda is currently finishing up her training for the instrument rating with Ed.

Accelerated was perfect for us – efficient, confidence building, and ramped up learning with no loss of knowledge along the way. With patience and eloquence, Ed pointed out numerous areas of things we needed to work on and improve techniques. Within the first day we were seeing dramatic improvement in our approach performance and radio work with ATC. I couldn’t be more positive about the AFIT accelerated approach or give anything less than an “excellent” rating to Ed our instructor. And, we did all the training and checkride in our PA32-260 Cherokee Six. Most schools want to train in their planes. We wanted to train in the plane we are going to fly.

Is AFIT expensive? NO! If I would have done this right away I would have been further ahead and would have saved all the time and money wasted on less than effective weekly lessons. Hence, that total cost of training is at most the same and highly probable less with AFIT because less overall hours of instruction and airplane costs are consumed.

Thanks again for helping achieve this important goal. My advice for anyone wanting an instrument rating – CALL AFIT.

Tony,

I just wanted to drop you a note regarding my recent experience working with Bill. As you may recall Bill was going to come up to Illinois to work on my IFR rating at my home base. Unfortunately the week before we were to start training my plane was found to have 4 cracked cylinders. Perfect timing! I talked to Bill and he recommended I come to Texas and get my ticket in a new 172 with the G1000. The first day I flew the plane I thought there would be no way in hell I could master the G1000 let alone fly it in IFR. I was wrong! I only had 10 days…………period. Bill had me flying 5-6 hours a day doing approach after approach. If I screwed up……….we did it until I got it right! We flew in class Bravo airspace, landed at Houston-Hobby airport, flew in real IFR even the beginning of a thunderstorm with a landing in unforecast and abrupt wind shear conditions. We topped that off with night IFR flight in and out of the clouds with varying degrees of rain. What a great experience!!!! Bill’s 30 years of experience from flying everything from a 152 to a Falcon jet and everything in between offers a wealth of knowledge that he imparts on you every waking moment. Even lunch……Bill brings his “pink cards” . These cards have been developed over his many years of listening to examiners questions during the Oral part of the Check ride. Not one question was asked by the examiner that Bill did not quiz me on at some time during my 10 day visit. In all reality……..after what Bill had me doing day in and day out and the tolerances that he demanded………………the checkride was my easiest day in the plane. He has a real gift teaching IFR. Even if I became frustrated Bills calm, encouraging demeanor would easily get me back on track and perfecting the approach. Great experience, great teacher and I feel I have made a friend for life. I will most certainly be back for my multi and commercial ratings.

Thanks again……..if you ever need a reference do not hesitate to call me.

10 Day IFR Training in My Bonanza

Tony,

Just wanted to let you know that I had a Great experience with Bill during my training. He was very patient and knowledgeable. It was great having him here and on my schedule. I would not have been able to complete my IFR training without this flexibility. With the challenges of Chicago weather and busy airspace, it all came together nicely. I’ve had the chance to do some easy IFR since and fly our Bonanza with confidence thanks to Bill.

Thanks again.

Tony,

I just wanted to write and express what a tremendous experience my accelerated instrument training has been with AFIT. Ralph was one of the best flight instructors I've ever had the pleasure of working with. His extensive, real world, knowledge, and his ability to breakdown concepts has taught me far more than just what was required for my instrument checkride. Being a fairly new pilot, I was a bit hesitant in doing the instrument training in the accelerated format, however I am extremely happy that I went through with it. The program's structure and focus, combined with quality/professional instruction from a dedicated CFII like Ralph was just what I needed to get my instrument rating and obtain a wealth of knowledge beyond just the requirements of the PTS. I would highly recommend this training to anyone seeking their instrument rating. I truly feel confident departing into IMC conditions due to the training I received.

Please feel free to have any potential students contact me if they would like to discuss my experiences with AFIT.

Thank you once again and please pass on my gratitude to Ralph.

AFIT Training - Piper Saratoga

Tony,

Just wanted to let you know how satisfied I am with the Accelerated Flight & Instrument Training program I received from AFIT and John in Boulder Colorado, The idea of getting away from my hometown to prevent distractions was the right choice. Boulder in the Spring this year proved to be challenging from a wind/weather standpoint but in the end I know I am a better pilot for it! John, was very committed to teaching and instructing me to get the job done. I was also appreciative of him taking a personal interest in my overall piloting skills and helping me work on some deficiencies that needed attention. At the end of the session I not only walked away with my IFR ticket but felt like I knew my plane better than I ever had and gained confidence in precision flying skills that I did not have when I arrived. I would not hesitate to recommend AFIT and John to any future potential client you have that inquires!

All the best.

Hey Tony.

Thank you for Hal. He is a great instructor. You were right on when you said I would be happy. I passed my check ride on Monday as you know. Hal is so patient and professional, and has become a good friend. His unrelenting confidence in me was so reassuring. The thought of being Taught by an instructor with Hal's experience and safety was everything. From day one of flying we were in the system and clouds. After all my concerns when talking to you on AFIT's training, I really see the benefits of actually flying in the system Vs. Simulation. Some of the situations we were put into with ATC you just can't simulate. I can't say enough about Hal and his Love for IFR training and his positive attitude every day. He made the difference in my abilities as an Instrument pilot. My flight examiner said he did a good Job. Please use me as a reference any time and I would love to talk or answer any Questions for someone considering AFIT.

Tony,

I want to thank you for all your help with obtaining my instrument rating. Ron was a delight to train with and you were always there to answer any questions. I needed to have my rating in 5 days and was barely vfr proficient when Ron arrived. We trained hard for 5 days and I had my rating by the end of the 6th day. More importantly, Ron rekindled my interest in flying. He took me to Class Bravo airports, into snow and icing conditions and helped me experience other real life scenarios. We’ve become great friends and I look forward to earning my commercial and multi-engine license with his help. Thank you again Tony for telling me that simulators are not capable of teaching real life flying. You not only helped me earn a rating, but prepared me for years of flying.

Please feel free to pass on my name and number to anyone who has any questions.

AFIT, wow what an experience.

I decided to take on a 10 day IFR course in my Cirrus SR-22 and never expected it to be so easy, accommodating, and fulfilling. The experience began the second My instructor Ron stepped off his flight from Florida at LAX. He was accommodating confident and organized. Never through the 10 days did I feel rushed, or feel the repetitive nature of this training to take its toll on Ron, his relaxed nature made flying for so many hours with a hood on calming and very instructional. If you are thinking of this course and have the time to put in, your results will unquestionably be the same as mine. I passed almost without one negative comment from the FAA Examiner that performed my check ride. I had plenty of time to continue managing the demands of my company and never missed a beat in the training. Ron not only was a wonderful instructor but became a friend. Thank you AFIT for the time and the confidence to get my IFR ticket in a short 10 days of fun.

Dear Tony,

I finally made it back to Denmark after a very eventful and successful stay in the US. It was quite a task, but I enjoyed every minute of it under the great and enthusiastic instruction of Ron my instructor.

My flight training with AFIT has now been completed with a successful check ride yesterday at Galveston. Ron did a marvelous job as my instructor. His services are highly recommended. He is a very dedicated and patient instructor, and his positive enthusiasm and energy kept the moral up, during, at times, an intensive program, passing TSA approval and Medical at Dallas, Written in SAT, and Oral as well as Flight test in Galveston. He organized everything in a very forward looking way. An instructor who can keep the optimism up at all times, he is highly recommended. I was very satisfied with Ron's energy and dedication 24 hours a day. Getting up very early in the morning checking weather, filing flight plans and printing out approach plates off the internet on the hotel computer.

It was a real pleasure to meet and work with Ron. He is very thorough and a likeable person, a passionate pilot, with a great sense of humor. And he had perfect control of the process and the administrative procedures, obtaining the necessary approvals, and cutting through the red tape as necessary. I did not feel we lost one single minute.

Again, thanks for your excellent AFIT program, and the excellent instructor you made available for my training.

Tony,

I wanted to relay my thanks for the incredible training provided by John and AFIT. I am a low time pilot (just passed 200 hours while with John) and being in my mid-40s don't learn as quickly as I used to! So, leading into the start of my course I really couldn't see how someone could turn a few random hours of instrument time (going back to my private training a couple of years ago) into an instrument rating in just 10 days. How wrong I was...

On meeting John on the first day, he immediately put me at ease. He's a very likable chap and very quickly honed in on a communication and teaching approach that suited my learning style. We actually got going on that first day with the 250 mile / three airport requirement included in the PTS. This was a stroke of genius on John's part because a) it helped us get to know each other b) got a potentially cumbersome requirement out of the way quickly and c) got me well grounded in what lay ahead, without the pressure of having to "perform" from the outset. While my mistakes were frequent and clear, by the end of the flight John has raised - not lowered - my confidence in my ability to pass the checkride.

Over the course of the following days John worked me hard! He was very flexible as to when we met each morning, accommodating weather issues into the training with ease. We also had some unanticipated plane availability issues and John got stuck in with a number of very persuasive calls to various folks to find a resolution. This included "educating" some folks on the FARs around 100 hour requirements with for-hire planes. John knows his stuff!!

As it turned out, we lost three full days to weather, which - I am told - is very unusual for this time of year in Denver. Even then, John signed me off at the end of the 8th day. Given my readiness (or lack thereof) going into the course, that is staggering to me! He threw in "academic" topics along the way, which was really helpful in getting through the oral exam, which I took on morning of the 9th day. I sailed through that and John was a big factor. Unfortunately, weather prevented me taking the checkride, which was postponed to the following morning. Again, John was there for me - he met me at 8am for a quick ride ahead of my checkride, which was very helpful. He didn't need to do that - but did!

Thankfully my checkride went well and I was overjoyed to receive my instrument rating. I am completely exhausted but in a good way!!

John's teaching style, communication skills and sheer experience were the biggest factors in my achieving what, for me, has been a goal for quite some time. I would also like to think I made a good friend (and more, actually - he introduced me to his pilot girlfriend and two other pilot friends over a very enjoyable dinner on Friday!).

If you have any customers in the Seattle area (which may happen because I'll be telling folks about AFIT) please send John - I'd love to meet up with him and think back on what was a very enjoyable and ultimately successful 10 days. Together, John and AFIT exceeded my expectations.

Thanks.

Hi Tony,
I can't say enough about John. He was professional, committed, accommodating, and prepared me thoroughly for the IFR check ride. He also taught me to land my Columbia properly as well as made me a better pilot in every aspect. He arranged through his contacts to fix any problem that came up with my plane. I now count John as a friend that I can call for advice and he can call me if he needs a favor. You have a winner in John.

Tony,

Ron was a pleasure. I enjoyed getting to know him and having him as an instructor. He was willing to fly anytime, anywhere. We spent a lot of time working but also mixed in some trips to different places such as Orlando, The Keys, DC, etc. where we were able to get experience in different types of air space and heavier traffic flows as well as visiting a Fly In. He was well rehearsed with all of the systems in the plane and applied a fun and relaxed syllabus. I got my rating on the 10th day just like you promised. Please feel free to use me as a reference for future students.

"Bonanza A36TC Transition and IFR Training"

Tony,

I just wanted to get back to you and thank you for a wonderful instrument training session I had with John and to provide you with this recommendation.

As you may recall, I have a Bonanza A36TC and wanted to do an accelerated Instrument Rating in a complex, retractable gear aircraft so that the time would count toward getting insurance coverage on the Bonanza. Due to John’s impressive piloting history, we ended up with John listed on my insurance and an OK to do dual training in the A36TC. Doing your IR in a fast turbo Bonanza is not the easiest way to get an IR. But, if you are willing work hard and put a few extra hours in, it can be a very rewarding experience. Naturally, my goal was to be able to fly the A36TC with an IR, so it was much faster, if not easier, to do my training in the Bonanza. Nonetheless, John was very helpful in providing both transition training in the Bonanza at the same time as starting from the beginning for the IR. After successfully getting my IR, the insurance company offered me PIC insurance based on the 56 hours of dual with John.

John has lots of experience in turbo operations as well as high altitude flying. He was excellent in teaching both how to fly the airplane as well as the instrument procedures. I was very pleased with the experience and fully intend to use AFIT and John again in the near future to expand my piloting skills for both the commercial rating and multi-engine. It is a lot of work to do an accelerated IR, but I would trust AFIT for this task!! Thanks

"Bonanza A36TC Transition and IFR Training"

Tony,
I Passed the checkride in the Bonanza A36TC with no issues! John was great to work with. He accepted the challenge that all others shied away from. John took a new low hour pilot from a Cherokee and not only transitioned me into a high performance, complex turbo normalized Bonanza, but used the Bonanza for 100% of the IFR training as well. All in 13 days.

John was always professional and delivered much more than what was expected. The IFR training with John, made me a better pilot in the Bonanza than I was in the Cherokee. Thanks

Tony,

I just wanted to give you some feedback from my experience with John in Colorado last month. I wanted to thank you for a great instructor. He was a very knowledgeable and helpful instructor that made the whole process very easy on my part. Our flights together were enjoyable and he managed to combine the necessary elements to get me check ride ready with my needs for cross country hours very well. The aircraft rental he arranged in Erie was top notch. The plane was virtually brand new and their line staff and management couldn't have been nicer in meeting my needs during the rental. I especially appreciated the reimbursement for lower fuel costs elsewhere from the daily wet rental rate. Although I've heard the 10 day programs can be very difficult in terms of the volume of information and doubts about completion, I found just the opposite to be true with my experience with AFIT and John. He was able to incorporate all the needed aspects into fun, daily flying time that accomplished all the goals I had set out for the week.

Again, Thank you for all your help setting up my program. I wish you the best with continued business. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with John and value the experience. As he may have related,
I passed my check ride on the first time with no major concerns and look forward to future development of my IFR skills. Thank you again,

Tony,

I wanted to write and let you know what a pleasure it was for me to complete my IFR training in my Cirrus SR-22 with AFIT and especially my instructor Mark. After working around my hectic schedule, you were able to arrange for Mark to come down to Dallas. From almost the moment I picked up Mark at the Dallas Love airport to dropping him off for his flight back home, Mark wasted no time quizzing me in preparation for my check ride. The weather was absolute CAVU the entire time Mark was in the Dallas area and he obliged my desire to get into some true IMC by putting up with some long days to allow flights to south Louisiana where the weather could be found. We started our days early and Mark was always patient with my questions and helped me to develop a deep understanding of Instrument flying with his broad range of flying experiences. I have already recommended AFIT to a fellow pilot based at my airport and would not hesitate to do so again. Thanks Tony.

Tony,

What an asset you have in Mark. He is a real stand up guy who is a great flight instructor. I enjoyed my time with Mark both professionally and personally and to boot found his instruction to be very comprehensive. Given the fact that I had to split my time into 2 sessions he was also very flexible to make sure we got everything covered and re-covered if necessary. Needless to say, he has my highest recommendation for your students who are fortunate enough to get him as an instructor.

IFR "finish Up" Course

Tony,

I assume that by now you have heard from Ron that I passed the IFR check ride on Wednesday.

I am just writing to thank you so much for hooking me up with Ron to help me finish training for my instrument rating. Aside from being one of the nicest gentlemen I have ever met, he is an exceptionally well qualified instructor. We worked really hard and at times I was ready to bag the whole thing, not thinking that I was going to be able to perform to the FAA's standards. Ron was always enthusiastic, upbeat and did his very best to keep me motivated during the long days of training. I had serious doubts at times that I would be able to be ready since we had to shorten the length of training due to the schedule of the examiner.

For me, as I am sure it is for any student, it was the fear of the unknown that kept me awake at night. Ron constantly encouraged me though and never once made me feel embarrassed when I made a mistake. It was great fun being with him and we did have many laughs while we worked so hard to accomplish our goal. All of my worry was for nothing though as every aspect of the oral and check ride went smoothly. Ron kept giving me the credit for succeeding, but I know that it would not have been possible without his dedication and skills as an instructor.

I have had training from numerous CFII's along my journey for this rating and Ron is without question the best teacher in the business.

Please don't hesitate to use me as a reference for anyone that is thinking of using AFIT to obtain their rating.

Tony...

Thank you very much for the wonderful experience I had working with you and Ralph... I thought before I would never get my instrument ticket because of the "sketchy", off-on kind of training, but with your help, I almost came to tears when the examiner said to me, "congratulations, you've done a good job and earned your ticket"...One word on Ralph...he is a great asset to your company.. made me feel at ease. I was a little bit skeptical about training with someone whom I never met before, but his terrific skills, both in flying and personal, made it like a breeze...I regret when he left because I felt I said good bye to a dear friend and will miss him, but will stay in touch as friends and mentor...

Thank you again, Tony,...It was a pleasurable experience working with you...God bless...

Tony,

Thanks for the congratulations. I had a great time with Ed. The flying was intense, but I really feel that I learned a lot from the experience. In addition to passing the rating I think that I am a much better pilot and better and more comfortable controlling my plane. Ed was very calm even when I was flying across the LOC course and kept the stress limited to only my own. We also had a great time talking about flying and a lot of other things over lunch and breaks. The program turned out to be a great adventure flying up to Minnesota and meeting with the FAA examiner although I know this is not part of the regular course. I filed IFR for my flight back to Milwaukee and was vector through Minneapolis Bravo airspace.

Hi Tony,

I really enjoyed the time spent with Ron. He is a great teacher with a lot of patience for working with people new to the IFR world. We flew all over Texas through VMC and IMC weather. He took the time to explain everything that we were doing as well as to repeat information multiple times through out the 10 days. Ron was very flexible and worked around my schedule as it fit into a busy life. I would highly recommend AFIT to anyone interested in attaining their IFR certificate.

Hi Tony,

Joey is an excellent instructor for the following reasons: thoroughness, he has good communication abilities, good interpersonal skills, explains everything very well, excellent knowledge on the subject matter, very professional and timely.

Thank you again for a wonderful experience and feel free to use me as a reference.

Sincerely, Kyle Vestermark, Long Beach, California

Tony,

I want to commend you on your use of the extremely capable and ever-cheerful Ronald for part of your team, BUT, any future student should be given the following WARNING prior to starting their instrument training with Ron: "WARNING!! This guy will REFUSE to allow you to say you're never gonna get it! He will NOT get annoyed with you and let you quit for the day, just because you blew the same approach six times in a row! He will continue to LAUGH every time you threaten him with physical harm, and you WILL NOT be able to persuade him to just keep the money and go on the next student!" By the time it all comes together and you start to wonder why you ever thought it was so difficult - about the eighth day for me - he will make some smart-aleck remark like "I knew you could do it all along"(!) In short, I appreciate the fact that he MADE ME do it [I had three other instrument instructors in the thirty years and 1100 hours since I got my private ticket], and would recommend Ron and AFIT to anyone - with the above warning, of course.

Your firm provides a very valuable service to the pilot community; we need more instrument rated flyers, but it's all too easy to get discouraged in the early stages of shooting approaches and decide to "quit for now, and come back to it when I have more time, money, patience, etc..."i.e., QUIT. I tried those fly-an-hour-at-a-time-once-or-twice-a-week processes in some syllabus-oriented school's high-time fixed-gear, fixed-prop trainer with no real success, because it was too easy to put it off. I'm convinced that your method whereby I flew my own new Bonanza off my own Class C airport - and jammed it all into ten days - has made me a much safer and more capable pilot than the old-fashioned way.
Thanks Tony.

Sincerely, Ed Holliday Laguna Niguel, California

Tony,

Just wanted to follow up with the training I received from AFIT. Even though our weather wasn’t the best – ask Bill how cold he was – my training went off better than I could have hoped for. Bill had me completely prepared for the oral exam and check ride, so much that I was somewhat disappointed that the check ride was not harder. The experience with AFIT was great and I was extremely happy with the time I spent with Bill – not only did he prepare me for the instrument check ride but was very helpful in making me a better pilot by going above and beyond what was required. I plan on using AFIT and Bill for recurrent training so that I stay up to date with everything related to instrument flying and new equipment. Once again, thanks for everything.

"17 Day IFR Partner Training Program, 2005 Cirrus SR-22"

Tony,

We couldn't have done it without Ed's instruction and appreciate your help. We learned a lot of good things from Ed that will help us be better pilots.

All that counts is that the AFIT system works and we now have our instrument ratings which as you know is a license to learn more...much more! Thank you.

Good luck and God bless,

"17 Day IFR Partner Training Program, 2005 Cirrus SR-22"

Tony,

I truly appreciate the opportunity I had to work with you and Ed. Ed was a lot of fun and made the challenge of instrument training seem much more manageable. We flew all over the west in the course of training, even got into a little IMC along the way. Ed's personality was very enjoyable in a training environment...and just hanging out in the down times. I would enthusiastically endorse your program and Ed for anyone ready to take the IFR transition step. Thank you.

Hi Tony;

Bill is, without qualification, a superb instructor. His vast experience in many domains of aviation allows him to impart important "real world" insights into the procedural guidelines mandated by the FAA. His approach allows the trainee to embrace flying as a dynamic process, sidestepping the pedantic trappings of conventional flight school syllabi.

For the owner/operator who desires an efficient and pragmatic method to advance his or her skills/ratings, the AFIT programs represent a truly exemplary opportunity to attain their goals.
Thank You.

Tony,

I successfully completed the IFR certification this week. Thanks for all your help in the training process. Due to some extraordinary work pressures of my law practice, Mark and I had to work with an extremely compact schedule to complete both the instrument written exam and the practical training while he was here. Mark graciously took on the challenge and provided outstanding training and guidance throughout the instrument training process. Mark conducted the instrument training with an extremely high level of professional competence, tailoring the training process to both my personal situation and my personal training needs. Southern California is an extremely congested and complex training ground for instrument construction. Mark was able to craft training exercises in this real-world context that well prepared me to fly safely and competently in the Southern California instrument environment. My hat is off to Mark for a job very well done.

Dear Tony,

I want to say working with Bill was a real pleasure. He was calm and VERY professional. My experience with Bill and AFIT was nothing short of excellent. I cant believe I am instrument rated. I have talked about doing this for many years. I thank you and your company for allowing me to fulfill my dream.

Hello Tony,

Thank you. Ed is a great guy and a fantastic instructor. I went in to the flight training with only the 6 hours of basic instrument that I received when I got my Private license. Ed took it from there. He and I, literally, spent all day every day together working on this for 10 straight days. I can’t thank him enough. Ed polished my flying skills, my thinking skills, my communication skills, definitely my multitasking skills. I definitely received more than just a IFR certificate from this. I "know” that I am a better “pilot” today than I was ten days ago. Now all I have to do is keep up my skills.

Many Thanks

Tony,

I wanted to drop you this letter of appreciation on what I great choice I made in selecting AFIT for my instrument training. It’s probably the story you hear quite often. Started my training elsewhere, 2 hours here, 3 hours there seemed like it was taking forever. Trying to book time with busy instructors, scheduling planes etc. Then when I had the opportunity, the aircraft and the desire to put aside 10 days, Ron came here and did such a fantastic job. I saw the difference the very first day. The syllabus of ground, followed up by airwork in such an organized, step by step process. I felt like I had learned more in the first day then I did in months of previous lessons here and there.

Ron knew the plane inside and out. One of the things I had requested from your company in the beginning. Please don’t send me someone who is unfamiliar with the aircraft. You didn’t and he knew everything there is about the Cirrus. He made the whole learning process both fun and enjoyable all while learning what it takes to fly instrument single pilot. At the end of the course I passed the check ride and now have level of confidence I’ve never had before. When you recommend Ron to future students, let them know, they will talk instrument flying all day, at ground school, in the plane even while we were having lunch. This type of process worked so great for me, we were always talking about rules, regulations and steps to follow while flying.

I look back so fondly of the 10 days with Ron. I’ve kept in touch with him since he left and look forward to using your company for future ratings as I see fit. Thanks so much. All the success to you and AFIT. Please if you have anyone who wants to hear from a student of AFIT , tell them to give me a call. I would be glad to recommend AFIT to them first hand.

Dear Tony,
I wanted to send you a short note to express my satisfaction with AFIT’s Instrument Training Program. I found my trainer, Mark, to be a professional who really knows the material and how to present it. And I especially appreciated the flexibility afforded me during the days of training. It was a real benefit to me since my work schedule is demanding and at times unpredictable. I am looking forward to working with Mark again next month for my Commercial rating.

I would readily recommend Mark and AFIT’s training program to any pilot.

Tony,

I wanted to personally thank you and your team at AFIT on a job well done! I finally received my Instrument Rating and couldn’t be happier with the professionalism Ron demonstrated as my flight instructor. We had a great relationship as instructor and student and Ron covered all of the material I was to be tested on to my comfort level, so that when I took the test, I felt absolutely sure that I would pass, and I did! Ron was a pleasure to work with and I hope to maintain my relationship with him in the future.

My company, Cooper-Atlanta Transportation Services (CATS), is a luxury limousine service headquartered in the Atlanta area and we service our customers on a global basis. I noticed many similarities in the professionalism and customer service that AFIT and CATS’ provide to their customers; therefore, it makes me feel even more secure to know I have been trained by what I believe to be the best in the Aviation industry.

On another note, I have been looking at the Pilatus PC-12 as my next possible aircraft and may need some training to familiarize myself with its avionics and flying ability. I was reading on your website that you now have a Pilatus Training Course. That’s great and when I do find my Pilatus, I will again be calling you and your team of professionals!

Again, thanks to Ron and to you at AFIT for providing a great training program and helping me conquer another goal in my flying journey! Safe skies,

Tony,

I just wanted you to know Bill E. was a pleasure to work with. He was able to stay calm and worked with my bad habits, no matter how stubborn I was. Bill is very understanding, patient, and a genuinely nice and sincere gentlemen. He even worked our a second weekend trip so that I was able to pass my checkride. I’ve been flying VFR for over 10 years and have always worried about being stuck someplace or having to delay departure. It sure adds undue stress to the situation. I had taken a traditional IFR course with my local CFI and passed the written. With my business growing fast it seems I never had the time to get my instrument rating. But I did update my Saratoga with the latest GPS, HSI, Mode S, etc, for that day when I would have to enter the clouds.

The stress finally got to me after being stuck in TX for 2 days. I saw your ad in one of the flying magazines at the FBO, called the number and got the ball rolling. I studied on my own and, based on my old instructor's endorsement, took the written exam ( got a 97% ). Bill E. then stepped in and we logged 18 hours of training over a 5 day period. I enjoyed every minute. Even the ground training. I have never worked with an instructor that has such a broad spectrum of flying experience. With Bill's confidence I was able to pass the check ride and I now have my IFR rating. I almost immediately put the rating to use on a trip with to the San Juan Islands ( near Seattle ). With my wife ( a VFR pilot ) in the right seat to crosscheck, we were able to make 3 IFR departures and 3 full approaches at 4 different airports on that trip. We were able to make all of our planned departures and stops on schedule. No more undue delays waiting for the morning marine layer to break up. That trip was made possible by my training at AFIT.
It was a pleasure having the chance to work with AFIT and especially great to receive training from an instructor with such experience and knowledge as Bill E. AFIT would be my number one recommendation for any experienced pilot wanting to efficiently earn an instrument rating.

Thank you both for the help.

Tony, thanks, Ed was very accommodating on my schedule and was a pleasure to work w/. We covered quite a few things in the 4 days preparing for the check ride. You can know that my biggest disappointment is all of the time i have spent (1 year) getting to this point. if i were to do it again, i would go through your 10 day program and be done. the one time economic hit may be higher in appearance, but, the overall costs would be lower.

Thanks for your help and for sending Ed down to work with me, you and your staff did a great job.

Commercial Multiengine Instrument and Commercial Single Engine Instrument

Tony:

I just wanted to say thanks to you and your excellent staff at AFIT. First off, on initial contact you explained everything that AFIT could and more importantly would do for me. I already had my private pilot license and instrument rating and was looking to obtain both the Commercial SE and the Commercial ME with Instrument privileges. Prior to contacting AFIT, I was slowly crawling along facing all the hassles associated with a traditional flight-training program.

All that changed when I contacted AFIT. Believe me when I say no false promises were made. You laid it all on the line and covered everything in detail. When you indicated that I could get it all done in eight days, I have to admit I was very skeptical and doubted you and the instructor about getting this done within that established time frame. You indicated it would not be easy and that it would require a very serious commitment. I like a challenge, so I took you up on it.

As you know, I managed to successfully pass four ratings in eight days. I now hold a Commercial Multiengine with Instrument and a Commercial Single Engine with Instrument. Add to that, the fact of having a truly enjoyable experience while getting it all accomplished. I highly recommend your services. Thanks again for everything.

Dear Tony,

I just wanted to let you know that I thought your accelerated instrument course was fantastic! On the Morning of June 5th, I had never had an instrument lesson in my life. With the exception of the minimal instrument training required to get my private ticket and a couple of hours during my BFR's, I had almost no instrument time. By June 15th I had my instrument rating! Your system works!

I can't begin to say enough about the instructor, Ronald, Simply put, Ronald was probably the best teacher that I've ever had in any subject. There were moments (about the 6th day of training) when I had no idea how I was ever going to pass the check-ride. Between his expert instruction and his role as my personal cheerleader, Ronald was able to reassure me that we were right on track. And he was right. By the end of the 8th day everything made sense, I knew what I was doing, and I knew I was going to pass my check-ride. I'd be happy to talk to any of your prospective clients as a referral. When I get around to upgrading my plane I'll be sure and schedule another round of training!

Thank you!

Tony,

Weather and schedules finally cooperated for my instrument practical Tuesday night. I passed with several compliments. Mark shared and taught me techniques that were easily understood, and repeatable, for all aspects of the practical. Most of these were noted and resulted in positive comments from my examiner.

I enjoyed working with Mark. He was very sensitive about my time, making himself available around my business and personal obligations. More importantly, for me, he was a very effective instructor. He clearly explained requirements, risks and preferred methods for safe and compliant instrument flight. He also went out of his way to use IMC for much of the training, invaluable experience, especially here in the Upper Midwest.

My only regret is that I waited so long to train this way. Thanks for your help and support.

Tony,

My recent experience with Ronald from AFIT was nothing but perfect. Ronald came to Santa Barbara and spent several days in our home as well as my airplane. As a flight instructor Ronald provided all the necessary flight training and oral preparation to pass my commercial check ride. Ronald has the ability to pass along his vast knowledge of flight. As a guest, he was a delight to have with us. With a very busy schedule, using the services from AFIT was an ideal way to get the training needed to pass the FAA Check Ride and I thank you.

"An instrument rating makes you a better pilot" I was told by many aviators. I was having trouble fitting the additional training into my schedule. I read an ad in an aviation magazine about AFIT and was more than intrigued. After a little more research I decided to immerse myself in my instrument training. I scheduled a block of ten days and committed myself to the training.

Their trainer, a 8,000 hour plus pilot, and I formed a fast friendship and I learned about more than just instrument flying during those ten days. I passed my check ride with confidence. Now I am a better and SAFER pilot, thanks to AFIT.

I recommend them to everyone!

Cirrus SR-22 IFR Training

Hi Tony,

Well - I did it. Ron is a very nice guy and put in a great effort - as well as me. He knows all aspects of instrument flying. I felt very safe and comfortable with him. Tony, I would like to thank you for arranging the Ten Day Instrument Course. I had over the years, attempted to start my instrument training several times before, only to let it slip away as a thought in the back of my mind. Now having 20 years on the Nassau County Police Department and starting the Homeland Security Business after being at the 9-11 WTC site I decided it was time to complete my flight training. The course was scheduled to coincide with my vacation, so I could attempt to get what I thought was an unobtainable rating due to the mystifying nature of the instrument rating, work and things that always seemed to arise. I decided the only way to get my rating was to do it in the shortest amount of time, thus the choice to use AFIT seemed to be the only logical choice. You set me up with an instructor whom you thought would be best suited for my needs, Mark A.

Mark and I spoke several times on the phone prior to beginning the training, we hit it off well (found out he also has a Law Enforcement background). He believed that with the majority of my flight experience in helicopters (in an airline and in law enforcement) with a few hundred hours in airplanes that I would accomplish my goal in only 6 days! The course was adjusted to reflect a 6-day time frame, however I still blocked out 10 days for the rating! The next change in the course came about when I tried to schedule an aircraft here on Long Island, New York. Most FBOs would only rent me an aircraft if their instructors would train me, citing clauses in their insurance policies. Mark made the suggestion to train near him in the St.Louis area, where AFIT had an aircraft available at a very reasonable rate compared to New York prices. We then made all the necessary arrangements. I still thought that 6 days was a rather aggressive task, but by total immersing myself in the instrument course could only help me to achieve my goal.

I arrived in St.Louis on Monday, late in the day, Mark picked me up at my hotel and we immediately got started. The hardest part of the exam for me would be the oral, which Mark did a great job of de-mystifying any doubts that I had on our daily drives to and from the airport. Once airborne, Mark polished my strong points and keyed in on what needed the most attention to make those maneuvers shine also. To my amazement, my Sunday morning check-ride went off with out a hitch, successfully obtaining my instrument ticket. However, I still had 4 additional days booked, Mark then helped me to begin my Instrument Helicopter add-on training that same day, through contacts he had in the area. By Wednesday morning, I successfully passed my helicopter instrument add-on with the same check-pilot, just in time to catch my flight home that afternoon.

It was a pleasure doing business with AFIT and flying with Mark. The course proved to be valuable with Mark arranging things so I could completely concentrate on my training, which ended with the successful gaining of my instrument rating. If you have any potential students requiring information on your program, I would be happy to speak with them regarding my experience with AFIT on your behalf. Thanks again.

Hi Tony,

I would like to write a quick recommendation for AFIT.

Bill E. was very flexible with his time, and allowed me to devote most of my training in the air since I felt the knowledge portion I had well covered prior to his arrival. Despite us scheduling 9 days, Bill leveraged off my prior experience and mainly focused on the areas I needed improvement on. Because of that, we were able to finish earlier than expected. In fact we built up all the instrument time I needed in the first 5 days. By the 6th day, we had done approaches in well over 20 airports in Florida and we were both feeling very comfortable I would pass my practical, so we took the 7th day off to visit Sun-and-Fun. I took my check-ride on the 8th day and passed despite having conditions the examiner said he would normally not go up in [eg 30 knot crosswind for the practice ILS, and a lot of turbulence for doing the maneuvers]. The examiner even called me up later that evening and told me how impressed he was that I was able to do those approaches given the conditions.

Anyway, that left me completely free on the 9th day, which I spent with my family and relaxed before having to go back to work. I don't think it would have been possible to complete my training this quickly if it wasn't for the patience and experience that Bill possessed. He was willing to fly with me for over 6 hours some days and his gentle, upbeat tone kept me learning that whole time.

I had two other instrument instructors before Bill, but I knew it would take a long time to finish my instruction with them. I learned you are much better off with an instructor who has the experience of training hundreds of instrument pilots rather than trying to become the 3rd or 4th student of a younger instructor.

I recommend AFIT without reservations.

Cheers

Hi Tony,
It’s hard to believe I have been signed off and finally have my instrument rating. The truth is, ever since I started flying years ago I’ve suffered and worried about being stuck someplace. Frankly, it took a lot of fun out of flying for me.

I can remember years ago someone suggesting I take a weekend crash course to pass the written. I did, learned little, passed the test, became busy at work, you can guess the rest of the story. With my business and family growing fast it seems I never had the time to get my instrument rating.

One cloudy day I watched as my friend in the hanger next to me loaded his wife in his plane for a weekend get away. That was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

My personal friend Miles as well as Richard at "Mooneyland" told me about AFIT and suggested I give you a call. After talking it over with my wife, I decided to give it a try. It was a big step taking 10 days off from work, not to mention once your instructor

Ron arrived, we did over 40 hours of flying and another 40 hours of ground. Ron worked my tail off that’s for sure and I enjoyed every minute. I have never worked with an instructor that has so much knowledge and patience, not to mention, Ron was a genuinly nice and sincere genltemen.

It took a few days to sort things out once I returned back to work 2 weeks later, but guess what …. I passed the check ride first time up, and just like you promised Tony, I have my IFR rating now. It was a pleasure having the chance to work with you and all the folks at AFIT. Well done, and thank you.

Tony,

I had a great experience with Mark - he is a very good instructor. By the time the checkride came, it was almost routine. The training was harder than the checkride! Mark was very thorough and patient and I feel like I learned a great deal. I was very prepared for the checkride, and feel that I am ready to begin flying in IMC conditions.

I am very pleased with the AFIT program and would happily recommend it to anyone else.

Hi Tony,

Ed was a pleasure to work with, extremely knowledgeable and a great instructor. I guess it comes from 18 years as a flight instructor? That’s not a very easy job I don’t think. I passed the checkride on my first attempt and couldn't be more pleased. I told Ed my goal would be to see him again soon to work on the commercial license. Thanks for all your help, AFIT was the perfect choice for me.

Tony,
Had a great training session. Ed was helpful, proficient, and professional. Since I already had my Instrument Rating, Ed was able to tailor the program to fit my needs. Tony,

I just wanted to let you know how satisified I am with the IFR training I just had. He has just the right combination of teaching style and forcefullness needed to teach an old student like me. I cannot stress enopugh how happy I am with his help. I felt qualified to pass the Oral and Practical tests after only six days. The rest was just honing my new found IFR skills. Thats remarkable.

Tony

I wanted to write you this note to express my profound gratitude to the folks at AFIT and your instructor Ed for an exceptionally good course. I started my instrument training in 1992 at the Aero Club at Edwards Air Force Base. The motivation was to be a better, more precise pilot; the weather in the high desert was generally severe clear, so there was never an urgency. I'm a professor in Aero/Astro at Purdue University, own my own business, and now live in the Midwest. I had about 30 hours of instrument training, finished my cross countries, however, my last logged time was in 1998. You were able to assess that five days would be sufficient to hone my skills.

I averaged 6.5 hours of Hobb's time per day in the Cessna 182Q Five days later I was essentially ready to take my check ride. I confidently took my oral, and followed that with a very smooth check ride. I recommend your methods without hesitation to anyone who wants to become a better pilot, and wants to get their certificates or ratings in the most efficient manner.

Most sincerely,

Tony,

Our hard work has paid off immensely in the achievement of a goal I have had for a long time, obtaining my Instrument Rating. The education I received through your teaching, both practical and simulated was invaluable in helping me succeed. I appreciate the extra time you put forth to insure a positive and comfortable learning environment. I look forward to utilizing my instrument ticket. I will be contacting you in the near future to work towards my commercial rating. Thanks again. You and the folks at AFIT did a wonderful job and it’s greatly appreciated.

Tony,

I really had a wonderful experience flying with Bill E. and I was delighted to have the opportunity to benefit from his many years of experience as well as his wisdom and views. He was able to instil a disciplined and cautious approach to flying with an emphasis on safety which was excellent.

It certainly makes a tremendous difference when an instructor is able to command the complete confidence of his pupil- this he clearly did , so much so, that when the opportunity presents itself again, I will return to the USA for additional training, provided I have him as a flight instructor.

Thank-you for your help.

Tony,
I wanted to let you know, Bill E. was a great instructor with whom to work. He helped me to remember things that I had stored somewhere lost in my brain. I was prepared for the check ride. The oral, and flight portion times, indicated that I was well' prepared. They both went swiftly compared to what I expected. I now have a license to continue learning.

Thanks Tony, It was hard and intense, but worth it!

Hi, Tony!

Thank you! I apologize for the delay in responding, but I've been a bit busy after being away for a week. I very much enjoyed working with Bill E. He's very knowledgeable and offered me a practical approach to instrument instruction that was quite helpful. His study suggestions were also beneficial in preparing me for the oral examination, on which I did better than I expected I would. AFIT certainly proved to be the best choice for me. Thanks again for helping me obtain my instrument rating!

Hi Tony,

Bill E. was a great instructor for my needs. I own a company and trying to get time away is difficult. Using Bill with the AFIT course I could go to work every morning at 6:30 a.m. and work until 11:00 a.m. We would work on ground school and flight training every day. We would end our day at 10:00 pm. Bill never complained about the long hours. I have only had my private license for 3 or 4 months. Bill helped me on both the written and practical test. I own a Cirrus SR-22. My insurance for a student/new pilot was $10,000.00 per year. After I accomplished 150 hours of flight time and passed my instrument rating my insurance dropped to half. Not only did I save $5,000.00 per year, but I am a much safer pilot thanks to Bill’s instruction and AFIT. Many Thanks.

Sincerely,

Randy Scism, President, Marine Technology, Inc.

Hi Tony,

I certainly learned a lot. Ed was a great instructor and the design of the course was well thought out. I would be happy to recommend your training and especially Ed to anyone wanting to get their instrument rating as they will get the rating and a comprehensive education on how to fly more safely and efficiently. Thanks again,

Tony,
I just passed my checkride, what a great feeling ! Using AFIT was the only way for me, I could train on "my " schedule, worked out fine. Can't say enough good things about my instructor Ralph, an excellent pilot and teacher. Using AFIT, I learned to fly IFR, not just pass the checkride. Anyone who is serious about getting an IR, should give you a call. Or call me, I'll tell 'em straight up.

Mooney MJ20 IFR Training Course

Tony,

I just successfully completed the 10 Day IFR course with AFIT and it was quite an experience. My instructor, Ralph, was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout the entire course. He had the ability to bring it all together and make sense as only a seasoned instructor could. Ralph did not train me to pass the checkride, but to operate and survive in a real world IFR environment. I would not hesitate to the utilize the services of AFIT again; your company and its instructors are first rate and deliver as advertised.

Please feel free to use me as a reference for any potential customers.

Thank you,

Hi Tony-

The rating could not have happened without AFIT.....at least not in the same time frame. It was clear after one flight with Ed that I needed a lot of "polishing" even after 30 hours with another instructor. Because I was a bit farther behind that I recognized I was concerned that just 6 days would be enough but Ed did a super job of teaching and focused on the areas that were needed most. Thanks again and I'm sure I'll be in touch for refreshers,

Cessna T206 IFR Training Course

Tony,

I just wanted to express my satisfaction with the instrument training that I received from AFIT. The training was conducted exactly as promised and not only did I pass my checkride with confidence, but I feel proficient as an instrument pilot. Ed, my instructor, made the instrument instructional materials easy to grasp and provided 'real world application' of the material in the cockpit. At the end of the course the instrument environment was comfortable for me and I navigated through it with confidence. I intend to file most of my flights IFR.

Thank you for delivering as promised!

Tony,
My flight training experience with AFIT was great. As you probably already know Ed and I got along very well and kept the mood on the light side, thus less stress for both of us. We used our time productively. Ed’s years of experience and overall knowledge really did help me. I would recommend AFIT and Ed to anybody.

I had a great experience with Ron. He is a great pilot and talented instructor. His experience level allows him to pass on many items beyond what is required to “just pass minimum requirements”. He was proficient with all my equipment and showed me many things I did not know. We were able to work some items with my autopilot that I had never known, i.e. capturing a glide slope on a WAAS approach. I feel like I completed much more than just a BFR and IPC. I would recommend AFIT and Ron to anyone.

Thanks for all your help.

After researching numerous training options that would provide me the highest level of competency and confidence with my new Piper Saratoga II TC, there was no better solution than AFIT. My instructor, John, was thorough, punctual, professional and also a really nice guy. We flew my new aircraft from Baltimore, Maryland to Los Angeles, California which provided me, a zero time complex and high-performance pilot, a great learning environment and opportunity. Thanks for all of your assistance and I will certainly recommend your program to all of my pilot friends.

Tony:

Just wanted to take a moment and say thanks to AFIT and John for helping me obtain my Instrument Rating, on the first try.

I acquired a new Skylane 182 in 2005 with the intent of obtaining my instrument rating so that I could be more efficient in the business use of the airplane. I would occasionally do a couple of hours of training and get motivated to finish, however, something always seemed to interrupt the process and with each new motivation came the reality of starting over again.

A pilot friend suggested that I go through an intensive 10 day session and get the process over with. That seemed fine to me, however, having to leave home and business for an extended period was not very appealing to me. I came across AFIT where you send the instructor to my location and decided to go for it.

I scheduled the 10 day course and chatted with John my instructor a couple of times along the way. When John and I met for the first time at the airport, he put me at ease and I became comfortable with him very quickly.

After our introductory session, we went on our first flight and did some approaches. My overwhelming thought on that first ride was that there was "no way" I was going to be able to do this. You can imagine my surprise when we discussed our first flight and John said, "you're going to do just fine."

Over the next few days, things started coming together and by the end of the first week, my attitude had gone from "I can't do this" to "It will be hard but I can do it." In the last few days, things really came together and my confidence level went up considerably.

When the check ride was scheduled, we met the examiner, did the oral and went to the airplane with much anticipation. Weather conditions were not ideal for the check ride but they were safe. After doing some maneuvers but before the execution of the first approach, the examiner commented that "someone has taught you well." From there, with my confidence boosted, the check ride was one of the most pleasant flying experiences that I have ever had. I had complete control of the system and the approaches were "easy." I knew I would pass the check ride during the ride and recognized that I was indeed well prepared.

Summarily, I would recommend AFIT and John without reservation. John and I became friends, he is a great teacher, an outstanding pilot and I never felt unsafe when I was with him. The training was very demanding but he always knew when to back off and he was always accommodating to my requests when I needed a bit of space. This is the "only" way I could have ever achieved my IFR rating and getting the ticket was certainly a "top 10" event for me. My ability to use the airplane and make life easier for my traveling experiences and business was well worth the time and investment. Thank you.

Tony,

I wanted to follow up with you about my training. From beginning to end, your company was straight forward and easy to work with. It took the intimidating IFR training process, which some pilots told me was more difficult than getting their private, and made it seamless and enjoyable. Bill was top notch. His ample experience not only helped me understand the material, but also gave me a broader picture on how to use my certificate once I received it. If he could have only been a nicer guy, I might recommend him to other pilots. All kidding aside, Bill deserves a raise and a promotion to your top instructor, if he isn’t already. I would certainly recommend AFIT and Bill to any instrument rating seeking pilot.

IFR, Commercial and Multi Engine Training

Tony,

I had a great time working with Ron. I wouldn't have wanted to do my training with anyone else. He is very knowledgeable and 100% safety oriented which is very important to me. We did many things that other instructor's wouldn't have ventured on, such as complicated approaches etc., which I think is great because that puts me ahead. I feel very confident in myself to fly IFR, and I most certainly attribute that to my training. I have already filed 2 flights and was in IMC both times. I feel like I also acquired a friend that I can stay in touch with and contact if I ever have a question which is also a plus. I am very pleased with AFIT and my training with Ron, he is very flexible and very polite and explains things very well. I thank you for your services and I will be in touch with you in the future.

Feel free to use me as a reference at any time. Thanks again.

Tony,

I enjoyed Ed's instruction and patience during our training sessions. Our training was not during the coolest days in the Southeast, however we did get some low cloud conditions and thundershowers for actual IFR flight time. Ed never complained about the hot conditions and kept the training interesting and flexible.

Now I am enjoying flying IFR and cheaper insurance premiums.

Thanks AFIT!

I had a great experience with Bill and it went vey well. I feel he is a excellent instructor and he really cares about his students understanding of the material. Tony,

I cannot say enough about this course! Entering the program I had a lot of background but could not seem to tie it all together. In addition, I had not done any instrument work in almost 6 months. Too many interruptions, not enough instructors and a job which kept me on the road conspired against me.

After struggling for over a year to complete my IFR rating, Bill helped me gain the knowledge and skills required to pass my checkride in only 10 days. More importantly, he allowed me to build the confidence and proficiency necessary to know I am a competent pilot in instrument conditions. Bill is a great instructor and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him.

See you when I get started on my Commercial ticket!

Hi Tony,

Thanks so much for your support in the pursuit of my instrument rating. Like most of the students you talk with, I had earned my private pilot license through a very frustrating one step forward two steps back approach with four different instructors that I didn't wish to repeat as I embarked on the journey to attain instrument proficiency. From the first time we spoke six months ago, I was convinced that once I had my instrument written under my belt AFIT had the instructors to mold me into a safe and proficient instrument pilot.

Ed was a terrific instructor. Ed was very patient while I learned from his nearly 10,000 hours of experience. Ed's teaching background enabled him to productively convey the complex concepts associated with the rating. He's a real asset to your organization. Also, the ten day instrument program is perfectly aligned with the instrument subject matter and the consistency of flying every day allowed me to master skills that I will use each time I fly IFR or VFR. I will recommend AFIT to anyone that is serious about attaining their instrument rating.

Thanks again!

Dear Tony,

Once again, I would like to thank you for your expert instructions laden with years of knowledge, of many aspects of the flying business.

Your course is as advertised and better, an experience shared by one of AFIT students in the recent article in the AOPA magazine. It requires a total immersion with no distractions, one reason why I chose to come to you rather than have you come to my home town, a place where most of my distractions reside as well. With much of my initial self-doubt it was your encouragement throughout the course combined with prioritizing my weak points which ultimately lead to the successful passing of the check ride on a first attempt. Your dedication to the common cause of having me to pass no matter what it took was too, just another testimonial to your integrity and commitment to my success. I for one take great pride and satisfaction of not becoming the cause of lowering your success rate of having your students pass on a first attempt. You deserved no less. In the end my rewards were my new instrument rating, new friendship and the prospect and desire to pursue commercial and multi-engine ratings. All thanks to you.

Tony,

It was a true pleasure working with AFIT as I worked through my goal of Instrument Certification. The Instrument ticket was something that I had been aspiring to accomplish since I first completed my Private Pilot training back in 1996. With the demands of running a small business and traveling a great deal, it became clear that the traditional extended training approach with a local instructor wasn't going to get me the results I wanted anytime soon. I had read a couple articles about the Advanced Flight Training options and was very impressed with the successful history AFIT had with turning VFR pilots into highly capable instrument pilots.

After talking with you and reading the glowing recommendations from former students it was clear that AFIT had the capabilities and proven success to make what I thought was impossible into a reality in just 10 days.

As the days grew closer to start my training, the anxiety increased and concerns about being able to make it all work became a bit overwhelming. These concerns rapidly faded after the first couple hours in the air. My instructor instilled great confidence in me and made the flying experience as comfortable as possible. The first day was straight into IMC conditions and was certainly an eye opener to say the least. This wasn't a negative experience but actually showed me early on in the training what was to be expected and what the possibilities of skilled IFR training can do for a former VFR pilot.

We spent the next couple days flying a variety of different routes and approaches throughout the mid-Atlantic in all sorts of conditions, including rain, sleet and snow. I was taught how to fly safely and identify these negative weather conditions before they adversely affected the flight and how to take corrective actions if something did go wrong.

My instructor is an amazing pilot and gracious instructor who has taught me the necessary skills to fly safely in IMC conditions with a much stronger level of confidence then I would have likely developed flying a mix of simulated approaches and completed training without the benefits of actual IFR conditions.

One lasting statement from my instructor which made a real impression on me was that with the IFR Certification comes great responsibility to maintain my skills and should be considered a "license to learn". I think that is an important statement for all freshly minted IFR pilots to continue to develop and expand upon the training that was received.

Hi Tony,

I just wanted to pass on that I really enjoyed learning under Ed. If I had it to do over, I would have scheduled the entire training with AFIT and never have wasted my time with the other company. Doing so would have been much more efficient and I am sure would have made me a better pilot. As it was, Ed did in four days what I have been trying to accomplish in 3 months – and the examiner was effusive with his compliments on this second check ride after failing me 10 days ago. I have learned my lesson – my next rating will be through AFIT. Thanks for your help, your quick and courteous response time, and meeting my exact needs. And thanks to Ed for his consummate patience.

10 Day IFR Training In my Centurion T210

I wanted to take a moment to express my thanks to A.F.I.T. and my instructor John. I successfully passed my instrument rating without a single problem. My entire experience was fantastic. If there is anything that could have been done better I do not know what it would be. John was extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of aviation, including weather, maintenance, regulations, systems, etc... John was extremely easy to work with and as I move forward with training he (AFIT) will be the first person I call.

The course was very intensive and after I received my rating all I wanted to do was take a nap. However, I would not do the training in any other way. By the end I was extremely comfortable with all aspects of the rating as well as all aspects of my airplane. In fact, after my check-ride my examiner commented on how comfortable I was throughout the flight. This can only be attributed to the course design and the incredible quality of instruction I received from John. I will not hesitate to recommend A.F.I.T. and John in the future.

My Successful IFR and Commercial training

Hi Tony,

Just want to touch base with you again and thank you and Bill for helping me attain the IFR & CPL tickets. Bill was really the best instructor I've had in my flying career, and he professionally set everything up for me, so all I had to care about was fly, fly, fly...His famous pink cards also came in handy as there wasn't a single question the examiner asked me that I hadn't discussed with Bill before. As for AFIT and your support, that too was professionalism from start to finish. I will certainly spread the word across the pond in Europe with everybody who's working up to his instrument rating and wants to get it in the US.

C185 Training

Tony,

I'm very satisfied with the training particularly in regards to being able to tailor it to my specific needs and schedule. In the big scheme of things I view all training as an attempt to never risk safety for passengers or myself. In the back of my mind I know I will always be a "weekend pilot" and I can't let my guard down as when it comes to ongoing currency and training. I think we scored an A+ in these areas.
