Private Pilot Finish-Up Course

I just completed a 10-Day Private Pilot Finish-Up Course with Paul in Lincoln, CA. I couldn’t have been more thrilled and satisfied with the whole experience!

I trained for over a year in Seattle, clocked over 50 hours but the school didn’t let me solo due to various “technicalities”. Additionally, there was a 4-way conundrum of availability: 1) my availability with a high pressure job, 2) Seattle weather availability, 3) instructor’s availability in a busy flight school – they were almost always burnt out due to workload therefore not giving enough personalized training, 4) plane’s availability in limited summer months of Seattle. These factors kept stalling my progress, making me relearn so many of the concepts and not giving me enough motivation to keep going in this endeavor.

Once the summer months subsided, and my training halted again, I was super disappointed and rethinking my decision to learn to fly; I started looking for alternatives that could help me achieve my rating. I learnt about AFIT and the promise seemed to fit my needs exactly by dedicated instructor and plane availability in a good weather location on a full-time basis, thereby covering all the 4 concerns above and clearing the path towards the goal of PPL. I had a chat with Tony, the proprietor, and felt at ease. I signed up for the PPL finish-up course.

When I reached Lincoln, CA – I was paired with my CFI Paul. He quickly assessed my current skill level, made me practice a couple of skills and got me to solo on the second day itself! That was such a confidence booster as opposed to my earlier training experience. After that ,we quickly completed the remaining requirements and got ready for check ride. Paul is easily the best CFI I have ever worked with – he has such a calm demeanor , he is super organized, he is extremely thorough in his knowledge of all the concepts, and he is amazingly adept at demonstrating and training required flying maneuvers. He sets a very high standard for any student to emulate as a pilot in terms of skills, knowledge, decision making, and attitude in general (things that rookie CFIs out in the wild lack so much as they are just interested in time-building!). I will be sure to be back to train with Paul for my advanced ratings later.

Kudos to Tony for working closely with the students and instructors in keeping the operations going super smoothly. Really appreciate him for accommodating my two-day delayed arrival from Seattle due to a snowstorm in PNW. He’s been super professional and delightful to work with throughout the program. Highly recommend Tony and AFIT to folks looking to learn to fly and more!

I will recommend any busy professionals out there to go this route to earn their ratings from the CFIs with thousands of hours of experience while meeting their availability needs. This is the biggest plus. Once you get your ratings this way, you get a lot of flexibility in growing your skills to suit your specific missions.

Cheers!

14-Day Private Pilot Course

Tony,

First, I would like to thank you for squeezing me in on such short notice.  I am also very thankful Todd was able to do the same.  After arriving in Rexburg, Idaho and getting settled in, I met with Todd on the first day of training.  Todd is a very knowledgeable pilot and instructor, which was evident due to me ultimately passing my check ride! Todd went the extra mile to make sure the he and the airplane were available to get me the hours needed to complete my training in the time allotted. I was blessed to have such a personable and dedicated instructor.  Todd took the time needed to explain any questions I had and was always very respectful and professional.

I would recommend Todd 10 out of 10 times for any students looking for a flight instructor.  Once again, I thank you both for your assistance in getting my private pilot license, it was a great experience.

My Private Pilot Training

Hi Tony

I am very thankful to AFIT in getting my pilots license.  I worked with Ruben during my last trip and I really enjoyed my time in Lincoln, CA.  Ruben has a gift for being able to connect with whoever he is working with to be able to get across the information in an effective way.  Like the other instructors at AFIT, he really cares about your success!  I highly recommend Ruben to any prospective pilot needing training for their next certification.  He brings a calming presence to an already high stress environment and process.  It makes learning new tasks efficient, quick, effective and makes retaining the information much easier.  I would definitely use Ruben again!

Thank you Ruben and Tony for the AFIT training!

Thank you for the great training  14-Day Private Pilot Course

Tony,

Thank you for the opportunity to Train with AFIT. I found AFIT online and was impressed by the Testimonials. After filling out the online form I was immediately contacted by Tony and he assigned me to train with CFI Ruben at KLHM and my journey begins. Ruben and I spent the first half of day one going over all my records and by that afternoon we were flying going over the basic flight maneuvers required for the check ride and back to the airport for pattern work. After going over flight maneuvers, Pattern work and the Private Pilots knowledge (Ground School), I was given a Pre-solo test and by day three I did my Solo. Day four was a blast Ruben and I worked on my Cross-Country requirement, and Day Five I completed my solo cross country and take off and landings (To a full stop) at a towered airport. Once all the flight requirements were done, next I had to prepare for the oral exam which I thought was an impossible task with so little time left. This is when Ruben was at his best consistently challenging me on the Private Pilot ACS questions and talking me thru the flight maneuvers in preparation for the day of the check ride.

At the end of it all, I got my Private Pilot’s License as advertised and overall my training and personal experience was outstanding, I met some great people at Lincoln skyways Inc., which by the way have the best fleet of training aircraft I have encountered so far, and I look forward to training with AFIT in the future for my IFR Certification.

I would like to Thank Ruben for the great time and effort spent to get my PPL and look forward to working with him in the future.

Thank you

I cannot recommend this program enough. Tackling an instrument rating in such a short period of time is a tall order but AFIT makes it as practice and comprehensive as possible. My instructor Paul was beyond qualified and covered each topic so thoroughly that I not only felt comfortable during my checkride, but more importantly felt confident in my abilities when training in actual IFR conditions, which are common in Lincoln CA, furthering the value of this course. There’s nothing like flying in the real stuff and AFIT is the perfect flight school to give you real exposure.

More than worth the cost, Paul was happy to work morning to night with me, and they even offer extra days to make sure you’re sharp before sending you off to the checkride. AFIT struck me as a program that produces remarkably safe pilots.

After deciding to pursue a private pilot license at age 58, I discovered that for professionals with busy schedules the process can sometimes take years.  AFIT offered the opportunity to spend 2 highly focused weeks of flight training to get the job completed.  I came into the program as a complete novice to powered flight and finished with a successful check ride 2 weeks later. Tony, Ruben and the entire support system were amazing. Ruben is a tremendous asset and I am grateful for the chance to work with him.

I highly recommend the program.

I can’t begin to express how grateful that I was paired up with my instructor Paul. A very experienced pilot, and a very patient instructor. I have flown with 3 CFI’s including Paul and the thing I was most impressed by Paul is that he allows you to learn to fly and allows you to have full controls. I have flow elsewhere where the CFI took the controls often. In my experience, you just don’t learn as much.

Paul has several thousand flight hours and that’s something that also gave me peace of mind. He constantly is teaching and giving advice and you can truly tell he loves what he does…. Something you won’t get with all CFI’s.

If you get the privilege to fly with Paul, you will be in excellent hands. I felt secure and confident to fly in literally only 5 days! Crazy right?? Not only will he teach you but he will instill “right rutter” into your brain forever. :) I am hiring AFIT and  Paul again in a few months to get my IFR and Multi Engine Ratings.. That’s how impressed I was by him.  AFIT what a great program you have created. Tony, the owner, was super helpful and got me in quickly.

I would recommend the AFIT team and Paul to anyone I know. This Tennessee boy learned a lot in our short 14 days and am officially a Private Pilot.

Also quick note, you will spend $20,000+ at any “standard” training school due to how long it will take you and the learning curve of waiting a week or several days in-between your training. If you’re reading this, bite the bullet and sign up! You wont regret it, I sure don’t!

PPL Finish-Up Course

My PPL journey has been filled with ups and downs, punctuated by an AFIT exclamation right at the end.

Before the pandemic, I was working towards my certificate with a Part 61 CFI part-time — flying once or twice a week. Unfortunately, after clocking almost 90 hours, and being on the cusp of cross-country solos and checkride prep, unusually wet weather, haze from forest fires, work and COVID-19 all conspired to prevent me finishing up my PPL.

3 years later, I decided to try a Part 141 school, but that meant carrying over only 9 (or 10%) of my aeronautical experience. Never mind — the refresher would be good for proficiency, I thought. But, while I was fully committed to finishing up, the school I signed up with was — shall we say — somewhat partially committed. In 6 weeks with the school, I had only flown 12 times, with a student:instructor ratio of at least 6:1 and a student:aircraft ratio approaching 10:1, repeating lessons that I had done previously, and making absolutely no forward progress towards my cross-country solos and getting lined up for a checkride.

And that was when I speculatively reached out to AFIT and Tony, to see if there was a better option. I was pleasantly shocked when Tony personally reached out within a few hours. He empathised with my situation, and then set to work — trying out different scheduling permutations to see what would work given the various constraints and short timeframe that I had before having to return to my career.

Within a week, we had sorted out schedules so that I could work with Abe and Fady to finish up my PPL. Another week later, I had my checkride scheduled and am now a private pilot! At last!

I could not have done this without the excellent instruction from Abe and Fady, and the support from Alex, at Van Nuys. Working with Abe first, and then Fady, I was in good hands as I prepared for the oral and practical portions of the checkride. We went flying on consecutive days, right from the get-go. They identified my weaknesses within the first day or so, and I flew more hours in a week than in 6 weeks with the Part 141 school. All of this flying was time spent on flight tasks that were stretching me to become a better pilot, rather than simply checking off boxes on a rigid syllabus.

Right on day one, both Abe and Fady struck me as CFIs who truly have a passion for getting student pilots across the threshold to becoming certified pilots. Fady, in particular, truly lived up to his commitment to be “on the same team” as me, dishing out the right amount of encouragement, reminders, and even calling out when I was being too hard on myself. Fady even celebrated my birthday — a nice touch given that I had travelled away from home.

Apart from passing my check ride, I also appreciated the emphasis on inculcating good safety habits, and being systematic about getting and staying ahead of the airplane. All of this put me in good stead to be well-prepared for my checkride and to be a competent and safe pilot for years to come.

I have no hesitation recommending AFIT to anyone who is prepared to put in the effort, is serious about getting a PPL, and needs to minimise the opportunity cost of taking time off from a non-flying professional career. Anyone identifying with this description should definitely reach out to AFIT for a consultation without delay. The team here truly works with you in a solution-focused manner, sometimes moving mountains to make it all work out.

Truly, my only regret on this meandering journey is not reaching out to AFIT earlier to straighten the twists and turns along my PPL adventure. I shudder to think of where I might be today if I had not written that e-mail and taken the call with Tony.

Thank you Tony, Abe, and Fady from the AFIT team! Truly, thank you for making my dream of the past 3-4 years a reality!

14-Day Private Pilot Training Program

Tony, Paul, thank you very much for tailoring the 14 day Course to my specific needs. I started flying about 18 months prior to coming to AFIT but wasn’t making progress, in addition, weather, aircraft availability and work schedule was hard to overcome until I found AFIT and their accelerated program was just what I needed!

Tony paired me with Paul as an instructor. Paul made sure I received all the flight training I needed to pass the checkride. Paul is knowledgeable, accommodating and ready to provide constructive feedback at the right time during ground and flight training. I’m definitely going back to AFIT for instrument training and I can’t wait to have Paul as my instructor and mentor again.

Many Thanks,

Hi Tony,

“The accelerated training I received with Steven allowed me to build my aeronautical skills in a way that was best suited for me: Steven’s expertise helped me to pinpoint what my specific deficiencies were and we were able to work on them in a targeted fashion. Compared to a regular flight training regimen, AFIT’s full time training helped me to grasp concepts more quickly and effectively as I could practice for long periods without pauses in between.”

Hi Tony-

Just wanted to thank you and Andy for helping fulfill a life-long bucket list item!

I’ve wanted to do this since I was 10 years old. The two-week private pilot course was exactly what I needed to get it done.

As you know, it is an intense two weeks. The training materials laid it all out and I knew exactly what to expect before I got there.

I was fortunate that you assigned Andy to fly with me…..he was awesome in helping me get through it! He was always “sunny”, calm and patient.

I’m incredibly happy and grateful that I found you guys.

I hope to be back next spring for my instrument training!

First off, I want to thank Tony for making my training happen. Your attention and willingness to adapt will not be forgotten.

Now on to Ruben, first off, I know you were supposed have a week off and instead you stepped up to fit me into your schedule. I am learning that in aviation and in life we have to adapt and overcome and that was my first lesson of the journey. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and that reason was that Ruben was supposed to be my instructor and it couldn’t have been better! For the 10 days we were together it was an intense and deeply satisfying experience, he always pushed me to do my best and brought a sense of calm, insight and knowledge to each situation I was faced with. There was never a time during the duration of the training that I felt that I couldn’t achieve what he was asking.

My time with AFIT and Ruben was one for the the memory bank and I feel that I have gained a friend in Ruben as a result. Again, I want to thank you both for helping me to achieve a lifelong goal to become a private pilot. I will be back soon for my instrument training. Until then, I’ll be talking to you on the CTAF!

10-Day IFR Training Course

Hello Tony,

I recently completed the IFR course in Lincoln, Ca under the instruction of Steven. My successful check ride was Saturday with the DPE.

Steven did an excellent job instructing; ensuring I was prepared for whatever scenario, location, or procedure on which I would be evaluated. As well, he is an extremely personable and pleasant person from which a student can comfortably learn.

Casey and crew did a stellar job at keeping the airplane in good flying condition.

I appreciated the close proximity of the hotel and the price arrangement with AFIT. Having a printer in the hangar was absolutely invaluable. And finally the dedicated classroom at was a good set up for ground training.

Thank you again for being the pathway to my Instrument rating.

14-Day Private Pilot Training Course

From the first contact with Tony and Accelerated Flight & instrument Training to the dinner with Paul, my Certified Flight instructor after a successful check ride, what a great experience.

Tony made sure all my questions were answered and the process of showing up to my flight training was seamless and that I was prepared. The prep course for the ground knowledge and ground test is well put together and if you study will have no trouble passing with a high score.

Let me share my experience with the actual flying portion of the course. First my CFI Paul, is just a good person. He is a man that has experience and knowledge that far surpasses his age, his patience and the ability to really teach was the key to our success. I can not overstate all the CFI’s that I meet in Lincoln California Paul, Ruben and Steve are what makes this program work. My actual flight experience the first day I showed up was nothing, I mean nothing, I had only rode in a few small planes in my life I had never touched a control or a radio. Not having any experience is fine, this program is set up for those like myself. I will warn you though don’t expect a passive learning experience from the first 5 minutes of sitting in the plane, tell the fist time you take flight probably within 30 minutes of sitting in the plane you will be actively learning and will be using the controls. Paul pushed me out of my comfort zone from the first flight. He needed to do this as it is an accelerated time frame, this never came with jeopardizing safety or control. Just be prepared to be out of your possible comfort zone for the first couple days. By the 4th or 5th day I felt more comfortable and by day 7 when I had my first solo flight I was comfortable and ready. After that first solo Paul and I spent the next 6 days working on my new skills and learning to be a good pilot. 14 days after my first day sitting in a plane with Paul I had my check ride one of the most nervous days of my life. My Designated Pilot examiner Mark was a great examiner who helped me with my nervousness and at the end of the day said I passed.

If you’re thinking of becoming a pilot this program will get you there. I am 51 one years old and I have a schedule that I understood the way to make this work was to block off 14 days to accomplish this dream. Tony and Paul with AFIT made this a reality and they are both a class act.

Hey Tony,

Just wanted to say thank you and Todd for a great experience in Rexburg. With absolutely no previous experience in aviation whatsoever, I really did not know what I had gotten myself into once I arrived at AFIT. But Todd was an amazing instructor and made the whole experience feel less daunting. Todd definitely challenged me to try to be a better pilot and aviator, and was keen on detail in order to be ready for checkride. As a Houston native I really enjoyed the beautiful change of scenery flying over Idaho and also getting away from the Houston heat. Todd’s experience and knowledge of the program really facilitated our training smoothly and right on time (if not ahead of time)

Overall I had a great experience at AFIT and especially with Todd, I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in getting into aviation.

WOW, what an amazing two weeks of flying and training I had with My instructor Paul. He was an amazing instructor and very patient with the things I had to work on. I was able to complete my check ride and look forward to continue flying. I found the course to be intense and challenging, however I enjoyed this as flying was my life for two weeks. We were able to train in all sorts of environments out of Lincoln California, from the Bay Area, to the mountains, to Nevada. I was able to get a nice variety of terrain and fly into several airports as well which was helpful for my training. I feel well prepared and exited to continue flying and appreciated the opportunity to train with AFIT and Paul. Tony was also very helpful with setting everything up and making sure I was prepared for the course.

Once again I would extend my recommendation of AFIT to anyone interested in an intense and rewarding flight training program.

Hi Tony,

The training I received with AFIT was excellent! Even though it was intense, and the training happened over only 10 days I feel qualified and confident in the cockpit. My instructor, Mike did a great job of not only preparing me for the check ride but preparing me for real world IFR flying. 10-Day Instrument Training

Hey Tony,

All I can say is WOW! The last 10 days have been an incredible journey, yet it all flew by. I can’t thank Paul enough for all that he did for me and taught me. He was incredibly patient and thorough with his teaching. One of the things I admired most about Paul was that he was instrumental in ensuring that, even after the checkride, I would be a capable and confident pilot in the IFR system. First and foremost in his mind was making sure that I had the necessary skills and knowledge to be comfortable flying under IFR. The check ride ended up being a test of a mere fraction of all the things that I had the opportunity to learn from Paul over the 10 days. During the course, Paul even accommodated trips that I wanted to do and to go to local areas that I wanted to see, all while training. And when faced with last minute issues with the examiner, Paul was able to find replacement examiner and schedule them the night before my checkride. Your program is truly awesome in accomplishing what it does.

Thank you to AFIT and Paul for allowing me to get my instrument rating so quickly and efficiently.

10-Day IFR Training Course

Dear Tony,

My Ten-Day IFR course with Tom Kuhlman was some of the best instruction I could have asked for. Tom’s lifetime of knowledge and experience was evident every day we met. Tom was patient, honest, a fine communicator, and everything else a true teacher can be. Tom did not give me typical cram-course answers, but rather the thorough understanding that was required to comfortably pass my check ride. Tom knew exactly how to judge my progress and how my skills compared to FAA standards. Beyond the check ride, Tom mentored me to become a better pilot for the rest of my life. Soon after I started training, 8-10 hour days with Tom became truly enjoyable. Whether it was talking in the car, the hangar, the airplane, or the restaurant for lunch, I was immersed in Tom’s knowledge of flying. My time spent with Tom patched me into decades of lessons and wisdom. Tom’s teaching is rooted in passion. While raising a fine family and creating a home in Salt Lake, Tom still dedicates a piece of his heart to teaching pilots.

After the unexpected mechanical complications of my airplane midway through, I thought that my training had come to a premature end. Despite the seemingly prohibitive circumstances, Tom went out of his way (pulling every string he had in Salt Lake) to find another comparable airplane to fly, and teach me how to fly it. And that he did, in less than two days. I passed my check ride on the morning of the day originally scheduled. Tom knows flying. Whether it’s high wings, low wings, jets, helicopters- anything, Tom can tame it and operate it beautifully. Tom is nothing short of the hardest working and most thoughtful instructor I have had and may ever see. After all we went through, I regard Tom as a dear friend and an asset to the aviation community.

Working with you, Tony, has been great as well. You’ve been fabulously responsive and I can tell you take pride in the quality of business you run. While going to Salt Lake instead of Sacramento was a large change of plan, you addressed the situation early and professionally. Changing plans for Salt Lake was a major “recalculation” for me, but you were true to your word about the quality of instruction I’d be receiving with Tom. If Tom is available in the coming years, I’d like nothing more than to work with him (and you) for my commercial.

I wish nothing but the best for Tom, you, and AFIT.

My 14-Day Private Pilot Training

I came all the way from Canada to do this program out in Lincoln, California. From even before I started everyone was super helpful and quick to respond to any questions and concerns I had. The AFIT PPL course was definitely one of the most involved and intense things I’ve done in my life. But it was 100% worth it. With little to no prior flight experience or knowledge, two weeks later I’m fully capable, knowledgeable and comfortable to fly safely and legally lol. I had the pleasure of being put with Tyler, a very friendly, smart and great instructor. He wouldn’t hesitate to take extra time out of his day to spend longer time to help me fly or help me understand something I couldn’t quite grasp. He really went above and beyond anything I would have expected from an instructor. He was able to explain complex subjects and instructions in a simple, easy to understand way and always had an answer to every question I had. By the time the check ride day came around I was definitely nervous, but I felt ready because of all the great training that I had.

I’m beyond happy I got put with Tyler but also every other instructor there was super kind and supportive. It was an amazing community that just seems like a big group of friends more than anything else. I still got a lot more positive things to say but looking at all I’ve written out so far I think it might be getting to long haha. The point is, if you’re thinking about getting your pilots license in a timely manner and looking at this place, don’t hesitate. It’s 100% worth it.

Thank you to Tyler and the whole Lincoln community for making this an amazing and unforgettable experience.

14-Day Private Pilot Training

AFIT’s program was perfect for my goals. I wanted to earn my Private Pilot’s License quickly, and without wasting any time. Beyond this, however, I wanted to be prepared for real world issues that I may face as a pilot. My CFI, Paul Vera, was remarkable. With him, I wasted no time and by the time of the check ride, I was beyond prepared. Each flight hour was taken seriously, and each maneuver was an opportunity to learn something and work on technique. Each hour on the ground was spent reviewing relevant material beyond the expectations in the ACS.

Of note to any potential customers: AFIT takes this very seriously. They expect you to show up and be prepared to be serious about flight training for 14 days. Every lesson spent builds on the last, so reviewing your notes outside the classroom is essential. However, if you show up ready, and bring a positive attitude, you will be more than prepared for your check ride, and your future as a pilot.

Thank you AFIT!

Hi Tony,

Mike is a wonderful flight instructor. In my 10 days with Mike for my instrument training, I have learned so much more about aviation than the instrument curriculum prescribes. Mike has tremendous experience in aviation and has taught me so much more about flying, instrument flying, and aircraft systems. I have become much more knowledgeable about my own airplane’s engine and systems. Mike also tells a lot of jokes, and makes every lesson a delight to me, while making sure I am learning at a fast enough pace. We worked around weather by flying more in the mornings, and we found and fixed several issues on my airplane that manifested themselves in hot weather operations. All in all, I think this is a great program and I would definitely consider it for my future ratings.

Till next time,
